More about "Roger"

Mystic Kicks rythm guitar player and founder

Roger was going to be the first permanent bassist for Mystic Kick before Kyle took over in Sept 2008. Bass was that one element we where missing to beable to go out and play shows. Mystic Kick practiced for a few months with Roger and just before playing our first show togeather Roger had unfortunatly had to leave the band. We where hopeing Roger would work out but unfortunatly due to different goals in Roger life he had to part ways with the band. This was not because he wanted to or because we did not want him but just one of those things in life that can not be helped.. Bad timing really for both Roger and the band Mystic Kick at that time. Especially when we where to play the Belleville Waterfront Festival not long after Roger left us. Kyle desided to buy Rogers equipment for him and learn fast for Waterfront wich turned out not bad for a new band at the time with a bass player that was new to his instrument. In time this became a blessing to Mystic Kick and for Kyle as he loves playing Bass now but Roger will be missed and we had a blast getting to know him.

Here are a few words about Roger from the man himself...

I have Always been an avid music fan from an early age, like so many other star-struck teenagers stuck in the sticks with plenty of free time on their hands, I started a garage band (in this case basement) with a bunch of other like-minded individuals. Playing original songs, the group played for mostly their own and a select group of friend’s enjoyment, with the occasional foray into Barrie for exposure to the sweaty, beer soaked crowds then inhabiting the local club scene.

The band eventually went their inevitable separate ways with some members moving away to attend post-secondary education, pursue a career, or exchange matrimonial vows. This period of maturation in a musician's life generally leads to one's instrument of choice gathering dust in an out-of-the-way location.

I later crossed paths with someone who wetted my appetite for playing music again, and in no time at all I was partaking in the joy and bonding experience that comes from being in a band. While there will always be a steady demand for live music at parties, pig roasts, and beer dives, I eventually expanded my musical interests to become part of a Brass and Reed Orchestra. It was here that I really began to realize the dedication it takes to be a serious musician, with the discipline required of you to be an integral part of a much larger assemblage. Learning musical notation and gaining indispensable knowledge from more mature and experienced players was just a fraction of what I took away from that encounter.

Upon moving to the Quinte Region, my original intention was to promptly get involved in the local music scene. But a new position with additional responsibilities and an ever-increasing learning curve thwarted my efforts to engage myself in all but the most basic extracurricular activities. By happenstance, I met the present members of the band and as luck would have it, they were actively seeking a new bass player. A very lucky set of circumstances for me as all the pieces of the puzzle were in place and we also seem to be on the same page musically. I am looking forward to being involved with a hard-working, stimulating, and exciting local band.
